Checked at my big local b&m and they didn't have the Otima 20, just the 10. Need to do a little research.

Re: 20 Year+ Tawnies Recap
My issue with that was that when they switched, the price didn't change and Otima then seemed overpriced compared to the other tawnies in 750.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 8:20 amI'm glad to see the Otima doing so well. ...though I'm still not a fan of the 500ml size (soapbox...LOL).

Re: What is your longest complete vertical?
I just checked my cellar software and my longest complete vertical is of Noval Nacional. This vertical spans the period from 1960 to present. Apparently I also have an almost complete vertical of Taylor from 1955 to present, but there are a couple of holes that need to be filled. I have a f...

Re: Cedovim Brand??
Edit: nope, doesn't look like it. Did some googling, and Quinta dos Corvos bottles look nothing like these (or Augustos). Yes, my conclusion as well. Cedovim pointed me too https://amavelcosta.com/en/porto-cedovim/ . So they are a brand under Amável Costa, which I am also unfamiliar with. But I don...

Re: What have you opened this week?
The tongs are good to see what cork says on the old bottles. Hate to break an old bottle, but seeing what the cork says is usually worth it. I think a couple of the bottles on my shelf in that photo were tonged. You usually can carefully sit the top back on in place. If that doesn't work, a little ...

Re: 1995 Smith Woodhouse LBV Port
Maybe too old? I have never experienced old LBVs (more than 15 years old) but for me also Smith Woodhouse LBVs are among my favorites (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2008 on more than 10 times)... In 2019 I opened a 1992 Smith Woodhouse LBV and scored it a respectable 93 points. And this year I put a 1994 Sm...

Re: What have you opened this week?
I keep some singles of empty bottles to line a shelf going down to the wine cellar. Has to be old and cool enough to make the cut. There's not a set criteria for what I keep. Old helps, but I've opened old bottles with a simple typed label that don't make the cut. Cool looking, did I really enjoy t...

Re: 650 year anniversary of the Anglo-Portugal alliance.
Churchill noted the earlier year when he addressed Parliament during WWII announcing the base lease in the Azores. Since I went to Winston Churchill High School, I'm going with that one.
But I'll drink to either year. ![Toast [cheers.gif]](./images/smilies/cheers.gif)

Re: Housing vs. Short Term Rentals in Portugal
Yes, while that article was focused on the hostel thing, I think the implications will be interesting across the board. What really surprised me about this was the magnitude of the step taken given that it hasn't been all that long since the last regulations were passed. Portugal already passed laws...

Housing vs. Short Term Rentals in Portugal
Well, a new law awaiting Presidential approval looks to shake things up: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/portugal-housing-law-hostels/index.html It will really be interesting to see what happens to costs (if) when this goes through. It might make for prime conditions to buy something if you aren'...

I was monitoring that one for a few weeks, but wasn't sure I wanted a magnum I wouldn't open for a while. I'm glad it went to a good home, was tremendous deal. According to Roy's forecast, there is only 48 of them! Awesome pickup. Yes, it was hard to pass up at that price. I see a magnum dinner in ...

Two 2020 wines from Soalheiro. The Alvarinho was very good, the Granit excellent (for white wines).

Re: What have you opened this week?
Visiting my parents, we picked up a 2016 Taylor LBV and opened it to go with a dark chocolate dessert. Very nice wine, and a good pairing.
