Re: What to do in Madeira if you have only one day?

Thanks, Eric! I will let my friend know. I was never in Madeira - but it is for sure on my to-do-list! It must be a fascinating place...

What to do in Madeira if you have only one day?

Hello Friends, One of my friends will be visting Madeira - but just for one day (as part of a cruise, if I'm not mistaken). So he asked me what would be the best thing to do if you have only a few hours available. He loves wine in general, so it would make sense for him to visit any location that mi...

Re: 1963 Dalva Vintage Port

Hello Richard, I suppose that this is a white port? If so, congratulations - I think you have a very nice bottle... Dalva produces some outstanding white ports. In my eyes, their 1952 is one of the most interesting ports ever. The last summer I tried it on two occasions - and it's just a mind-blowin...

New DOW port: "NIRVANA"

DOW has launched a new port: NIRVANA. I suppose the name is not really a tribute to one of my favorite bands, but rather based on the fact that you can find heaven on Earth by drinking this wine... Whenever I see or hear something from the Symingtons, I'm just amazed by the love to detail that they ...

Perfect Christmas gift for the child....

We all have a few bottles of port stored away for our children and hope that they will enjoy them at some point of time. We all hope that our children turn into sophisticated port lovers... However, we have to face the fact that they might become just normal adults that drink a vodka-mix-drink from ...

Re: Wine & Port drinkers may be imbibing illicit drug

That is terrible news and now I have to re-think my drinking habits. I'm very concerned about this GHB stuff, really. If I understand the article correctly, the GHB content in wine can be between 4.1 and 21.4 mg/l. The druggies use between 500 and 3000 mg GBH per dose. This means that I get a full d...

Re: BIG & BREAKING NEWS: IVDP - VIOLENCE IN THE DOURO - BENEFICIO

Very nicely written, Hugo - and I totally agree. The Douro is such a friendly, peaceful country... This "riot" was for sure not a nice event, but I have the feeling that the media have made this a little bit bigger than it really was... On the Youtube-videos I saw mainly elderly people tha...

Re: Portugal Bound - Port Harvest Tour

Just reading this I have so much saudade... I'm so jealous that you guys are now in Portugal and I'm not... :( I must confess that I have never been on one of the harvesting tours... this is one of the two large regrets in my life (the other is that I was standing with a hammer on the Berlin Wall in...

+1! Good luck, Oscar! I like that video - I like Oscar's enthusiasm and creativity in everything that he is doing! This is exactly what the port trade needs to reach out to new potential customers...!!!

Old video - Harvest at Andresen (1914?)

Hello, Here is a fantastic, old video... http://www.cinemateca.pt/Cinemateca-Digital/Ficha.aspx?obraid=2076&type=Video It says that this is from 1914... However, the quality is so good that I'm not quite sure... The last part (the loading of the ship) seems to be from "Douro, Faina Fluvial&...

Re: BIG & BREAKING NEWS: IVDP - VIOLENCE IN THE DOURO - BENEFICIO

Hi Vic: Well.... I have seen a few of the videos on Youtube about this "manifestacao" of the grape farmers... And I'm sure you would have been fine, if you would have been in Regua... Even as an American... :-) As you say, what the media report is not always the reality... And what the Sta...

Re: Your favorite Lodges in Gaia?

I totally agree with Taylor and Graham's. These are places that are a MUST for every visit. The restaurant at Taylor's is so far for me the best place to be for a nice lunch on a marvelous summer day, admiring the timeless beauty of Porto... however, I think that the new Graham's lodge will be stron...

Hello Derek.... Yes, that is me... [cheers.gif] But that is unfortunately not a difficult achievement if you live in the Cayman Islands... Everybody else here drinks Red Stripe or Corona... However, I have managed another achievement that is very difficult to copy: I have bought at least a bottle of...

Re: BIG & BREAKING NEWS: IVDP - VIOLENCE IN THE DOURO - BENEFICIO

Thanks for sharing these two articles, Roy and Derek. This whole issue is terrible, especially for the small farmers. It seems like history repeats itself over and over again - how often have we heard the sentence "O Douro da crise e fome" over the last centuries. Crisis and hunger - the o...
