Depending on teh restaraunt I tend to go for an early vintage if I am convinced it has not been open long. If I don't get a 'warm feeling' from the response that i get then I go for a Tawny as they seem to last longer once decanted IMO.

Christies Wine Auction

Is anyone interested in bidding on any of the Christies lots? There are a few nice VPs which I intend bidding on. I would be more than happy to look at splitting some lots with other people. If you are interested then please e-mail me.

Derek, I was thinking of going close to the top of the estimate, say something like £275. Alex, When I contacted Christies and spoke with them they said that though they do all in their power to ensure the provenance of what they sell they didn't think it was a good idea for me as a first time buyer...

What is the website? Is there a link? At that price it's worth importing to the UK.

Thanks

Having not one any of the auctions I bid on at Christies can someone advise me on if any of these represent good value? They seem quite expensive to me but I haven't been looking that long?

Riedel Glasses Cheap(er)

Just been to Harrods and they have quite a number of the Riedel glasses in the sale which finishes next weekend. I have bought 2 of the port glasses from the Somemelier range which were £40 down to £30 with an extra 10% off (this weekend only). There were other glasses included but I can't remember ...

Where do you buy yours?

I am only just begining to buy and drink port in enough quantities to make me look beyond my local wine merchant and I was wondering where everyone buys their port. I don't necessarily mean what store but say at auction, internet, eBay, wine merchant, supermarket? I hope the Poll works as I've not d...

Introductions

Hi, I thought I would make a first post just to introduce myself. I am a relatively young port drinker being in my mid twenties though I wouldn't say that I am a heavy one, yet. I started drinking port as an accompaniment to my cigars and after having recently tried a 1977 Rebello Valente I have now...
