Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
Hi Paul! Great to read your specific infos -highly appreciated. The 1934M Faja is a nice wine, still I think the 1880M ABS better. When you mention the 1914...maybe you know, I confess, I don't...where is the difference between the following 1914 Artur de Barros e Sousa (ABSL) Madeira Malvasia Soler...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
1) +1 for the 1801T Torre Bella, in one league with 1748T Vasconcellos, 1730T HMB and one of the great singing bottles of 1862 2) the 1851M Faja was clearly surpassed by the 1822M Faja when I tasted it a few years ago, but outstanding nevertheless 3) 1862T "JWEB/CJZ"...wonder if this is or...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
Maybe has to do with either
- better cork quality from domestic availability/trees
- high acidity declines the effects or risks of TCA
- less physical contact with cork dur to vertical storage

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
The problem is probably detecting the corkiness for those 2 bottles without opening; maybe it was just one single faulty cork; besides this I luckily have rarely experienced corked Frasqueiras.

Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?
The 1920M Lomelino is afaik the same as the legendary 1920M Cossart Gordon (the to be said "last" Faja dos Padres).
Is the 1880T Oli a recent or an old bottling? Paper or stencil?
Congrats!

Re: Henriques and Henriques ancient Reservas
Hi Andy, I saw this, too. Bought from a reputable dealer, and both labels being genuine as well as the capsule is obviously fine, I wonder if you have an indication when those "marked" bottles were started to be produced? It could well be that this was rebottled after 1960 and was not mark...

Re: Henriques and Henriques ancient Reservas
Long time, no additions to this topic. So, being quite enthusiastic about H&H's old stocks (and not even more about those Reservas which were in their stock but are gone already), I yesterday received a bottle which again brings out some news to the story. I in the past explained my find-outs ab...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
I picked it up on the island, May of 2017, from the gift shop of some mountain-top lodge. Nowadays a purchase of such a wine done on the island is an interesting task due to continously performed "adaption" of prices. D'Oliveira relatively aggressively raises the prices for the old bottle...

Re: Barbeito
I believe Ricardo wishes to be precise in the designation of a wine's origin. You are right, Ricardo is always stating with accuracy what is being bottled. FV is for Favilla Vieira a grower family with several vineyards. If Ricardo knows it's from the Ribeiro Real Vineyard, he'll call it RR. If fro...

Re: Barbeito
Hi Glen! QdS: was at Camara do Lobos & belonged to the Henriques. First bottled end of 1980ies; I am not aware of a later bottling although the bottlings exist in a variety of labels, stencils, handwritings on the bottle's front. I was surprised to see 14 different QdSs on CT and even some recen...

Barbeito's special designations
Hi! To all experts out there I was wondering about the different "lines" that our highly-appreciated producer has been bottling. I have in mind: - regular "Barbeito" - Quinta do Serrado - MMV - MVB - FV Does anyone have an idea or knowledge about the distinctions or in which peri...

Re: Bottle information needed
1. Do not intermix Real Companhia Velha with Real Companhia Vínicola do Norte de Portugal, these are 2 different companies. 2. the pictured bottle (the glass) is from Real Companhia Vínicola do Norte de Portugal 3. in former times (speaking 30iers, 40ies and 50ies) there was a MAJOR shortage of glas...
