1994 Adriano Ramos-Pinto Vintage Port

1994 Adriano Ramos-Pinto Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (2/13/2014) Kept in decanter and drank over several days. 5 days later it seems to be doing its best. Earlier on the alcohol was too distracting and brash. Thin in the mouth, shows chocolate flavors though the late palate is still dist...

Re: Special Occasion Port

Two bottles of 1955 Burmester Colheita, bottled in 1973. Will be opening them in just under a year's time, when my second boy turns 1. A bit of a crap shoot, will have some backup plan should they be corked or otherwise unpleasant to drink... I had one that was bottle in 1981 a couple of years ago ...

Re: Do you remember....

Despite growing up in Portugal, the first contact I had w Port wine that got me excited about it was while I was studying abroad in Bristol, in the UK, in early 2002. The Sainsbury's on Whiteladies Rd was running a promo on a Taylor LBV (cant recall which year) and for some 10-12 GBP I got myself a ...

Re: Why, when, with what, and how freqquently?

Not much dry wine on my end either. Port I usually have on its own after dinner. Noticing that in the winter I tend to go more for ruby style (LBV, young VP) and in the Summer mostly aged Tawny and Madeira. Usually have at least a glass. Have some pretty much every day. Usually have several bottles ...

I was somehow able to find Kopke for $40 and Cockburn for $50, though wo shipping.

Will hold off for more of those kinds of deals, and hopefully next time get 6-packs of them.

Re: What have you opened this week?

1994 Ramos Pinto VP
Decanted it yesterday afternoon, was a little brashy/peppery in the mouth keeping it from being a great experience.
The 1994 Cálem I had last week suffered from the same issue early on but a few days in was tasting pretty good... am hoping for the same outcome here.

Re: VP vs. LBV: A Port Dilemma

I think that 2011 may go a long way to changing your perception of Qta de la Rosa. Clearly the best VP of theirs I've ever had, albeit they've not been making them all that long . At least not for public sale anyways LOL. Have a bottle of their 1994 VP and low expectations to go alongside it... wil...

1994 Cálem Vintage Port

1994 Cálem Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (2/8/2014) Wont be rating this as I fear it stood on the store's shelf's for far too long a time. Pleasant w chocolate flavors, finish fairly long though the whole experience is fairly one-dimensional, though balanced from beginning to end. After 3 ...

TN: 2009 Quinta do Pinto Alenquer Touriga Nacional

2009 Quinta do Pinto Alenquer Touriga Nacional - Portugal, Estremadura, Alenquer (2/8/2014) V nice. Wonder if I am getting more used to 100% Touriga Nacional wines. I thoroughly enjoyed this last bottle. Strongly bodied, very tasty with a nice finish. There were nice fruity flavors in the mouth whi...

Re: A Taylor Offline

gents, Just ordered 8 boxes of tasting glasses. Bowl is almost identical in size and shape to the IVDP one, just a little shorter stem. So I should now have enough glasses for everyone to have 10 or 11 at a time on the table if I did the math right (did I mention I suck at math, so keeping fingers ...

Re: Pop 'n pour scenario

I wish someone out there did a phd on these things, putting together a framework for assessing the variables that we talk about and how they change over time. There have to be universities closely connected to wine producers/regions where something like this would fit. And this is something that, un...

Re: 2009 Pocas Junior Vintage Port on WTSO for $39.99

Seems WTSO has had it before... any experience from anyone who tried it?

The impressions I could glean were that it is good but not that great... at $30 that would work but at $40 am finding it a little tough...
