Easily accessible and affordable port

Hey guys!

Our dive into the 1983 vintage port has been a huge success! Big surprise, right? [cheers.gif] Wondering if you fellows have any suggestions for an 'everyday port' that easily accessible, affordable, and delicious??

Thanks for the tips :-)

Re: 1983 Vintage for a birthday present

Hey Roy, Sent you an email about your tongs. The ones I ordered from that site were supposed to arrive on Monday. When they didn't show up I emailed the company and was told they hadn't shipped yet! Sigh. They can get them out today but it will still be two weeks before they get here. I'm beyond dis...

Re: 1983 Vintage for a birthday present

Bummer... looks like I got the ones you don't recommend. Sigh. They are coming from Portugal and they weren't cheap so it looks like I'm stuck with them now. I'll be seriously, seriously saddened if they don't work [dash1.gif] Not much else to do but wait and see, though.

Re: 1983 Vintage for a birthday present

Hey Roy, Wish you'd posted sooner as the purchase is irreversible at this point... they are already shipped and coming from overseas  I had a heck of a time even finding any for purchase online. Thanks for the offer, though. If it turns out these are somehow returnable without too much grief I...

Re: 1983 Vintage for a birthday present

Thanks for all your help and advice everyone :-) I decided to get two less-expensive bottles that had different styles of tasting notes so that we will hopefully like one of them: 1983 Ferreira and 1983 Warre. Also purchased him some port tongs. His birthday isn't until the end of the month, but I'l...

Re: 1983 Vintage for a birthday present

Eric and Al,

Thanks for your recommendations! Adding them to my research pile.

My next question would be: where to buy? I had assumed I'd just buy from an online store. Any good or bad ones I should know about?

Re: 1983 Vintage for a birthday present

Thanks for you considerate response, Glen. This was precisely the reason I started this post as I am interested to discover how the Napa/Zin ports we've experienced compare to a true vintage port. "Fruity" and "sweet" are music to my ears, I hope the reality is as good. The only ...

Re: 1983 Vintage for a birthday present

Thanks for the replies guys... sounds like the Cockburn is out then. I'd like to find a tried and true bottle with less risk! It's rough making these decisions without tasting :-/ Thanks for the recommendations and welcome, Glenn! I'll look for tasting notes, etc on your recommendations. I'd like to...

1983 Vintage for a birthday present

Greetings, My fiance and I are very new to port [imnewhere.gif] but already loving it. As we currently reside in Santa Cruz mountains of California, our only exposure thus far has been the local flavor and Napa-style ports. We have tried a couple tawnies at restaurants and decided they are not for u...
