Re: 2000 Warre LBV Port

I drunk this LBV on 14. and 15. january for the first time. Your impressions are similar to mine. On day 1 (no decanting and drinking over 4 hours) a quite open nose but a pretty closed mouthfeeling dominated by alcohol. On day 2 this LBV shows (although very young) absolut fantastic balance of pure...

Makes me think of Pocas 10yoT bottled 2011. This is the best of this category I had so far. Nearly on a par with their fantastic recent Colheitas.

Re: NV Quinta do Vallado 10 Year Old Tawny Port

I found this to be one of the better 10yoT. But the real pleasure is the 20yoT. On a par with Sandeman, Warre Otima and Ferreira Duque to my palate.

Re: 1997 Calem Quinta da Foz Vintage Port

Claus, imo 12hours decanting is much too extended. I would suggest a pop and pour situation or give it maximum an hour of aeration. This 1997 Cálem Foz is certainly not a cracker but nevertheless nice drinking. It certainly arrived its peak. 1997 Cálem VP is another story. It's a decent drinking ove...

Re: 20 Year Old Tawny Port by Sandeman

Tim, a very good choice. I love this 20yoT too. Too my taste those 20yoT are often are even better on day 2 and day 3. Don't worry. It's something special and it would be quite boring to drink always at the top. There is lovely basic stuff too as it is Dona Antonia Reserve Ruby from Ferreira (which ...

Re: Article about Port, Noval Black, and Pink Port

Moses, I would assume the bartenders could do much better with a mix of modest Cabernet d'Anjou and a modest Vodka. Consider that this pink something is pretty pricey. There are other possibilities of invention as it is the Otima product line from Warre. Currently I am drinking Otima 20 year old Taw...

Re: Article about Port, Noval Black, and Pink Port

I had the opportunity (or perhaps, misfortune) to try the Croft Pink Port for the first time last night. I have to say that it's the most god-awful wine I've come across in quite some time. Not only is it lousy in a port sense, it's lousy in a wine sense. It tastes like spiked Koolaid. Not only is ...

Re: Dirk Niepoort - May's Forum Guest Corner Host

Hallo Dirk, schön, dass du hier bist! I do have a Pisca related question. By most of the professional journos 2007 Niepoort Pisca VP is regarded to mature considarably earlier than the 2007 Niepoort VP. I was very impressed about the elegance and the both polished and powerful tannins of 2007 Pisca ...

It's not that cheap here. Usually it goes for about 50 EUR. But I was happy to purchase some bottles at 25 EUR each.

I do like this 20 year old Tawny a lot. There is only one thing I would critcise. Although I am a fan of vivid acidity I found it to be too much.

Absolutely worth to look for. Even after 120 hours this was stunning- good balance, clean fruit, fine and vivid acidity, present but polished tannins and a long finish. It should have the stuffing to go the long way.

WS even gave 93 points. Michael, Now 24 hours later, I've got another glass I'm drinking at the moment. I can say the fruit is a little more expressive now on day 2, but this still has a lot of unripe tannins which hurt the overall experience. There is no way I can see 93 points for this. To be fai...

Goncalo, I agree that it is only a kind of snapshot impression one can get on these tastings. Conditions are not controlled, the Port often is served way too warm. The Morgadio certainly derserves an assessment over a period of three or four days. I am shure you will take much pleasure and I am look...

Re: Morgadio da Calçada VP 2007 (bottled and produced by NIEPOORT)

The first time I tasted the 2007 Morgadio VP was on a big tasting in Germany mid february. One week ago I spent 4 days with it side by side with the 2007 Niepoort VP und 2007 Niepoort Pisca VP. Although it does not has the class of the two others I liked 2007 Morgadio VP a lot. It needed about 48 hr...
