I'll double-check the label tonight, but recall it spending 20 years in oak before being bottled.

It's an excellent tipple... I gave it a 92 then tracked down a few bottles through a different shipper. It's tremendously deep, with hints of cinnamon. Better than the 1989 IMHO... Do not pop and pour, give at least a week to decant, you won't be sorry.

1850-60s Menus w/ Madeira
Just came across this fun post on boingboing showing menus from 1850-60s. Featured prominently on the one below is our favorite, madeira! I recall from my madeira readings that early imports were named by prominent Family's, creating their own brand/cache for their blends? I'm guessing that's many o...

Re: TN: Rare Wine Company Imperial Malmsey
Just found two bottles on the Brown Derby. The site had them marked down from $149 down to $99. What did they retail for when RWC first released?

Re: The Madeira Candle?
Hey Moses, I think it was $25/bottle. Apparently she'll re-fill as well once it burns down. You can reach out to UpCycledBottlesLLC@gmail.com maybe she'll do some volume discounting for you.

The Madeira Candle?
Perhaps this is too Martha Stewart for some, but I had a local artisan turn a few of my empties into candles! Thought I'd share the idea

Re: MADEIRA Tasting Event 2015
Had a great time at my first madeira tasting last night! I was like a kid in a candy store. H&H, Broadbent/Justino, Barbeito, D’Oliveira and Blandy's in attendance. Had the pleasure of speaking personally with Ricardo Barbeito, Humberto Jardim and Manny Berk as well! Many of the offerings I've t...

Ordering from Garrafeira Nacional
Just spent the last 20 minutes drooling over Garrafeira Nacional's madeira catalog. Has anyone here had a good experience ordering and shipping to the US? Love the variety of bottles they have, most of which I've never seen on RWC, etc. Looking to break out a bit with the different offerings. Any ad...

Re: Is Madeira the new Bordeaux
Thanks for posting this Roy, I was starting to think I was the only one here becoming price sensitive... I've personally cut back on my consumption and have re-focused my efforts on locating QPR's that fit my lifestyle. Shifting back to my old flame is probably prudent too... some Oloroso's, Palo co...

Re: Madeira vs. Port
Jason, if you're not crazy about acidity, I would not jump into sherry! Per Moses earlier in the post, you're only real option is Pedro Ximenez (if you do), which I call 'liquid raisins'. If it's sugar you're after, try some ice wines. I would encourage you to try more than one madeira before moving...
