Very cool! I don't think I've ever seen even a magnum of LBV before!

Re: What have you opened this week?

Over the weekend we had a 1983 Taylor LBV Double Magnum (3l), 1977 Taylor VP, and 1985 Ramos Pinto VP.

A lot of port to drink.

The LBV tasted more like an older colheita than VP. A friend thought it was like a 1950's VP.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Opened an '85 Grahams VP before the start of Yom Kippur. Seems sweeter than the '94 Grahams we had a week earlier, more pronounced spirit as well. Never thought I'd say this, but it's actually too sweet for my tastes in this new year . Had a glass last night and still pretty sweet. Maybe tonight it'...

Re: Is there a Method to your Madness.

I like to run my hand underneath all the bottles and pick one that is leaking. If cannot find one at that moment, I'll consider the scenario for the bottle in question. If it's a simple pop and pour, I'll keep it in the 1980's or newer.

What would happen if it were a true free market in the Douro with no pricing or selling constraints?

Re: Millions slated to be invested in hotel and restaurant at ...

Was saddened to see them no longer being imported by Broadbent. I rarely see Crasto products locally where here they are an easy sell. ...I have no idea who at Crasto thought that would be a good idea. I bought a lot of Crasto every year. Still have a bunch. Honestly, why would anyone spend money f...

Re: What have you opened this week?

1980 Ramos Pinto VP - Nothing special. 83 & 85 are better vintages for sure. Even after a few days the '80 RP was kind of dull and uninteresting.

Re: Decanting port

The big difference is that I ALWAYS keep the decanter at cellar or fridge temperature if it's not going to be drunk that evening. A friend does the same in the fridge, but I am not such a fan of it. I am growing to like VP's that have open for a few days in the decanter. I try not to disturb the po...

1985 Dow Vintage on Saturday night. Elys guessed the decade after a couple of hints and then said "Dow". I think she was throwing out the first brand that came to mind. Drank half on pop and pour. Hope to finish it tonight.

Re: What have you opened this week?

Inspired by Glenn’s 60th anniversary tasting, I opened a bottle of Ramos Pinto 1964 at the weekend. The general view was that it was drinkable but not great. Also opened at the weekend were a bottle of Ferreira 1854 and a half bottle of the Niepoort/van Zeller 1853 Dom Pedro colheita bottled in 200...

2012 Mouchao "Sobremesa Dessert Tonel Aged" A top notch ruby reserve style port. Worth looking for next time at liquor store. But from Alentejo, so not a Port ;-) I have a bottle of the 2015, "Pipe Aged - Early Bottled." I really enjoyed one of these while there, so I brought on...
