Re: 1977 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Still tastes like a young VP. Dense dark red fruits that have decades to resolve themselves. Feels quite blocky given how dense and concentrated it is. Prominent almond essence spirit but mostly on the fragrance not the body.

Re: Blandy's 1864 Solera Gran Cama do Lobos

A great response from Larissa at Blandys. Dear William Henzell, Thank you for your email and interesnt in our wines. The 1864 Solera falls under the "Solera" category, which is defined by Madeira wine legislation. This means it is not a single vintage wine, like a "Frasqueira." I...

Thanks Glenn and Erik, that’s helpful!

I wrote to Blandy’s last night and asked if they could provide any specifics. I’ll share any news I get from them here.

Does the 1864 indicate it was bottled in 1864? Or that the oldest material is from 1864? Or something els...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Thanks all for the warm welcome! The following have been in the past 6 months (fortunately I’ve been following your advice Eric). A really good Graham’s kicked of my excitement with 1977. Beautiful strawberry fruit, rich but delicate and light. I’ve had another that was similar and another where the...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Great to be here! Based in Australia. I had enjoyed ports on occasion but my penny dropping moment came when a generous member of my wine group brought a 1955 Nacional to our end of year function last year - I can still taste it if I concentrate. I most enjoy ports when they get to their ethereal st...
