Re: Quinta das Marias
Daniel, thanks for the hint. Unfortunately there is only one importer for Quinta das Marias in Germany who only offers the red wines. If you are common with this producer additional evaluations/TNs would be very much appreciated! Moses, I'd say that those prices are justified. Perhaps they are even ...

Re: What is the oldest LBV you've seen?
This LBV (bottled 1932) is also mentioned in Richard Mayson's book "Port and the Douro" (edition 2004, p. 301).

Quinta das Marias
Anyone here who knows these table wines from Dao. They are made by the (very kind)Swiss Peter Eckert. Rather small production, under 30.000 bottles if I remember correctly. I already had the basic wine 2006 Dao DOC (for the German market called "Lote"), the 2005 Dao DOC Garrafeira and 2006...

Dear Richard, First of all: Great to have you here! My questions: Will there ever be a hype on Port like on top notch Bordeaux? If not, why not? Do you think that global heating will cause serious problems in medium term on producing top notch Port? Which producers of Port are at present the most u...

Re: August 2009 VT: Enjoy your Port chilled
I tried another bottle of Kopke Rose Port and served it at cellar temp the first day and then chilled in the refrigerator the 2nd day. I liked it better colder. The acidity was brighter and it brought out the glycerin and provided a more viscous and round mouth feel. Oscar Q. said he enjoyed it qui...

Michael M. wrote; An increase of 300 to 400% over 20 years would be indeed a nice return. So Vintage Port would not only be an investment in oneself but also interesting in financial matters. I always read the opposite on this forum so far. There is a reason for that. I will provide you with an ana...

Re: Has anybody seen more 2007 VP offerings in USA or Canada?
The biggest difference I've seen, unlike Bordeaux and Burgundy, is Port lovers don't re-sell their bottles very often, most of us buy to drink. [cheers.gif] You hit the nail. I do have e.g. some bottles of 1997 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port which I purchased for 70 EUR/bottle. I think it would not b...

Re: Has anybody seen more 2007 VP offerings in USA or Canada?
Do you really think a top notch VP will only go up $30 in 20 years? I dare say no! Look at what people bought VP for in the 80's or even the 90's, silly cheap prices by todays comparision. Now some 20 years later that same bottle of XYZ VP costs 3-4 times what was paid back then. Andy, thanks for t...

Re: French wine exports in serious decline
A few thoughts.... France, like every other countries is making bad wines. 20-30 years ago, this wine from France was able to find a place on the shelves because there was practically no real competitions. Nowadays with the competition and constellation of mass producing wines, bad wines, either fr...

Re: Smith Woodhouse LBV 1995
Michael, I haven't had that so far- sadly. It is like the unfiltered version of LBV from Warre "bottle matured" i. e. after beeing botteled it spends some additional years in the cellar of the shipper. One can imagine that they only do that in a certain awareness of the high quality of tho...

Re: How old is the schist in the Douro?
Mr. Miller, But is the schist there in vertical or horizontal strata? Roy, my surname is not Miller. Probably a confusion. According to my humble understanding the geologic formation of shist is identically proceeded in Europe. Sources in Europe are mainly in Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Czech...

Re: Ex-cellars bottles of Vintage Port
So bottles stored at a range of 55-65 degrees are going to be in better condition 30 years later than bottles stored at 52-68 degrees over the same time frame. Roy, you know I do have very much respect for your competence in the matter of Port. But I will doubt, that anyone would be able to perceiv...

6. 6 bottles to leave alone. I was unfortunately 2 years too late in the matter of Port for the 1994 Ferreira VP. I could have purchased this one for a song. I see the Ferreira 1994 for around $40-50 around Boston all the time. I think I have a few bottles... Moses, price I would have payed was abo...

350-400 Million years ago if there is a likewise development as in Germany.

Re: Your 1994 favourites VP.
Tops in terms of overall excellence for me are (in order of preference): 1. Quinta do Noval Nacional 2. Taylor 3. Fonseca 4. Quinta do Vesuvio 5. Dow 6. Ferreira in a tie with Graham The only 1994 VP I tasted so far was 1994 Ramos Pinto VP (not the Ervamoira). I found it to be pretty good and do no...
