I would echo Roy's advice. Cellar tracker is a great management tool for your cellar even if you have to manually imput the information again. The great aspects of cellar tracker are the different formats which you can display your information, the thousands of TN's and the ability to print wine lis...

1975 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

This is the second 1975 which we has tried in the last few months (Sandman the other). I used the Roy method of long decanting 12 hrs. Very little sediment. Then I tried a little sip. Very light crandberry color and almost no legs in the glass. A heavy smell of alcohol which overwhelmed any of the f...

I recently opened a "75 Sandman (notes posted) and using Roy's theory of long decanting, really enjoyed the port better the second day as it really came alive and showed well. Based on that experience , I just purchased a Smith Woodhouse '75 and I am curious to see if my experience with the San...

Andy my daughter has always liked the Taylor LBV bottles so maybe this IS a great deal for the glass.

You want to go 1/2's on the lot?

1995 Quinta De La Rosa Vintage Port

4:30 Cork shows no sign of saturation and a fine layer of sediment accumlicates on the cheese cloth. The color is opaque purple and very thin legs appear as it is swirled in the glass. The nose shows muted plumbs, alcohol and smokey raisins. First sip has a weighty feel in the mouth with supple tann...

Andy

Thanks for the quick research.

I will buy the case and when I drink the first bottles I will post notes.

Both ports are being offered to me at $17.00 USD.

Once again thanks.

Buying oPORTunity ?

There a lot of sales going on this month.

I have been offered a split case of the following at a great price (if the wine is good it is equal to a very inexpensive LBV) Quinta de la Rosa 1995 & 1996.

Could this be my everyday quaf??

Any information would help.

Thanks.

What is odd about extended decanting is that this is completely opposite of what I do with older bordeaux's (20+ yrs).

If I had done this with any of my 20 year old wines they would have fallen apart by day two.

Live and learn.

Sandman 1975

This will be my first posted tasting note here. 10:00 am opened the bottle. Noticed that the cork came out easily and in one piece. Saturated from tip to tip but no leekage. While decanting there was very little sediment. The color was ruby fading towards browinish. Poured a little taste. Very alcoh...

I am new to tawney and colheita ports.

I did not know that the bottling date on tawney ports is on the label.

I thought that it would be bottled at 30years old hence the name?

The only reason that I know the date of the coheita is that I read about it on this web site.

Colheita vs Tawney

I have been looking to try an older tawney style port and below are my two options.

I have the opportunity to buy a 1974 Quinta do Novasl Colheita, bottled in 2004, or a Neipoort 30 year old tawney.

Both wines are about the same price.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

Thanks for tip. I went to the sight and found a few items of interest, Royal Oporto Colheita 1975 @ $39.99,. I have wanted to try a reasonable old Colheito and I now have my chance.

The wine is also available at NapaCabs (http://www.wine-club-central.com) for $49.95. I ordered 9 from them along with 3 2003 for $74.95.

Prices seem great to me.
