2015 Niepoort Pinot Noir Douro -- what's the story on this?

Post by Andy Velebil »

Saw this posted on FB. Since when is Pinot a Douro approved grape to make a DOC wine? Anyone know the story on this one?

To the best of my knowledge PN is not an approved grape of the Douro, for DOC status.

That's what I thought too. But it seems Dirk somehow got it approved as DOC. Hopefully someone here knows the story on it.

I don't know if it is Niepoort who asked for it, but I remember asking about this and I got a simple answer like " it is now DOC"

and yes I should try to be more active here....

Worth mentionning that 2015 started the collaboration project on this Pinot. In 2015, they invited Jean-Pierre Guyon of Domaine Guyon to make the wine at Napoles. He could do the wine the way he wanted, simply no yeast or chemicals could be added. 2016 was Philippe Pacalet and 2017 was Gonzalo Tamagnini
