My family Christmas port (my youngest brothers birth year). This one was delicate, reddish/orange colour, some heat after 5 hours in the decanter, hints of blackberries on the palate with delicate tannins and quite a long after taste.
Noticeably past its peak the following day, perhaps not one for the long haul?

IMO, a cooked bottle.
I have had this exact VP three times in a month's time from early Nov. to early Dec. 2007 (at 3 Taylor verticals including one in Portugal) with varying sources of bottles. All three were significantly better than what you've described and from the orange color and "delicate" etc. in your description, it sounds as if your bottle was either cooked or had a faulty cork which allowed oxidtion to take place.
Try another bottle with better provenance and I am sure you'll see a big difference. This is going to be a long lived VP.

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Does this seem to be a general consensus? I ask because I bought a single bottle of this for my wife's 30th birthday when I was down n the US earlier this year (it is near-impossible to find it in Canada, and if you did, it would be worth $400!!Eric Ifune wrote:Agreed on a flawed bottle. Had this last fall and it is still young. I'm going to hold on mine for at least another 5-10 years.
I had read a few opinions that it will be peaking in something like 15 or 20 years.... just wondering what general consensus is? I can easily hold it until her 40th birthday (I think
