TN: 2008 Quinta do Crasto Douro Red

Post by Rune EG »

No decanting. Dark red colour. Nice aroma of berries, somewhat on the sweeter side. Taste is fruity, significant acidity and tannins. Medium length of the finish. 85 pts.

I'm generally not been a big fan of this wine, but the 2008 saw a major change in that all the grapes came from their new Quinta in the Douro Superior that is almost to the Spanish border. 2008 showed great improvement over previous years, which tended to be a bit tart and lean. The 2008 and 2009 are both worth getting for a very good value wine.

Andy

I am pretty sure you are referring to the Crasto superior, which is a different wine than the regular Crasto red, and about 50% more expensive.

I've had it once and didn't feel like it was worth the extra money, felt like it lacked some focus.

Claus,
According to Miguel Roquette 2008 was the first vintage where all the grapes for the basic Crasto Douro came from their new Quinta da Cabreira. The Superior hasn't been released here yet (although I've had the 2007 once), but that also uses the grapes from the new Quinta if I'm not mistaken.
