1970 Warre's Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Very dark with lots of young fruit and amazing depth. A long fruity finish showed how well this is aging. Anyone who says this vintage of Warre's has peaked or past its best is wrong as this bottle shows.

Hi Andy,

How long of a decant time would you recommend? I see from a subsequent note that Al B. gave it 9 hours. I'm going to open a bottle from a 4-bottle lot that I just acquired and want to give it the best chance of showing well.

Thanks!

The last few times I had this vintage, I'd put it just below the other big names. Low 90's sounds about right. I have a magnum of this I've been anxious to open for a few years, but there's no port drinkers around my area... [help.gif]

I don't recall how long it had on this bottle but normally I'd go with 6-8 hours. I find that Warres does better with a slightly longer decant than other VP's of similar age/quality.

Thanks Andy. I'll report back after I open one up, which I think will be this weekend.
