1983 Smith Woodhouse
I really liked the 1985 Smith Woodhouse; and while I don't have as high expectations for the 1983, I thought it would be nice to try. And while I have no way to confirm this, reportedly these bottles were:

Purchased on release and stored, undisturbed, in a private temperature and humidity controlled subterranean wine cellar.

Just picked up a Croft Pink and a 1997 Quinta do Tedo SQVP. Both were very inexpensive.

The "test" bottle of the 1997 Quinta do Tedo was successful enough (TN here) that I went back and purchased the store's remaining 9 bottles this morning. While "merely" a very nice bottle on an absolute scale, it was a steal for $21.

While there, I also picked up 3 x 1977 Barros Colheita (.375) for $35 each and 3 x 2003 Quinta da Gaivosa Vintage Port (.375) for $18 each. The store is planning a remodel soon, so was interested in moving as much of the stock in the walk-in cellar as possible. I was happy to oblige!

They still have several bottles of Warre VPs - 1970, 1980, 1985, and 1991 - but the prices on those weren't quite low enough even with the clearance discount for me to pull the trigger. (Warre isn't my favorite producer.)

Those are great prices Carlos, like half of what I'm used to seeing for all but the 1970, and that 1970 is still a deal. I'm not a huge fan of Warre's, but I'd buy bottles at those prices.

Got them from Pop's Wine in NY. They have very good prices on quite a few Warre's. Seems like they bought out a distributors supply for cheap. Guess that's the bright side for us since Port doesn't "seem to be moving".

Get 'em both. I'd have purchased the bottles that my local grocery store has if they'd been that cheap, but even "clearance priced" they still want $140 for the 1970.

Congratulations on that find. The 1955 Burmester Colheita is one of my favorites. I've looked for it in the United States and the only bottle I've found under $300 is in poor condition.

This is a very nice 20 Year Old Tawny. If you get the chance try their 30 year Old as well. It is worth the extra price and a favorite 30 Year Old Tawny of mine.

I have to admit that the two bottles are from auction. They had been rediculous cheap. I shot them for 18 EUR each, shipping included. Thank's for the tip with the 30 years old. Never saw an offer on the web. I would also be interested in the Vallado 10 years old, 25 EUR in my area. Much more than I pay for my 10 years old Ferreira. I found 10 years old Vallado for about 10 GBP in the UK. Those prices must be the compensation for all those rainy days, given both from a higher being.

25 EUR is a lot for a 10 year tawny. I'd stick with the Ferreira... I guess it depends on how you like tawny to taste? At 10 years old, tawny does vary a lot.

25 EUR is a lot for a 10 year tawny. I'd stick with the Ferreira... I guess it depends on how you like tawny to taste? At 10 years old, tawny does vary a lot.

No, Moses, both not yet tried. Yes, pretty much variation in style. I had ( at his home with Axel P.) the Croft 10 years old Tawny, which was rather rustic in style but which I liked neverthless. I could purchase Ramos Pinto 10 years old for 25 EUR in my town. The 30 years old Ramos Pinto for 60 EUR looks quiet cheap in comparision. Unfortunately, they do not offer the 20 years old Ramos Pinto . Delaforce, His Eminence Choice is about 19 EUR in Germany , still more than my Ferreira.
