After a long day with a few dozen Brazilians watching their team eliminate Columbia, a whole bunch of food and Portuguese table wines, out came a 1997 Niepoort VP to end the evening. No time for decanting, this was pulled out of my friend's cellar and pop n' poured with the remaining five of us. Early on their was a tiny bit of effervescence which I attributed to secondary fermentation in the bottle. But by the end of the first hour that disappeared and this really started to come around and showed very nicely. Way yummy!

Picked up a bottle of Taylor 10, bottled in 2013 for $25. Wow, I really like this port more than I remembered! Amazing how Taylor can make a tawny taste like "Taylor"; year in and out. [cheers.gif]

1967 Dalva "Rui Paula" Colheita ... one of my last half dozen bottles. Great as always.

Additionally, another 375 ml bottle of 1994 Kopke VP. Both this and the one I opened last week from a different lot, were both seemingly overly mature. If you own this Port (at least in 375) I seriously recommend checking one of your bottles sooner rather than later. I'd also avoid buying more from any source, without first buying only 1 and then seeing how it is showing, before any larger quantity purchases.

Allan,
I like the old Niepoort "dumpy" bottles. Though I don't like trying to stack them in my cellar, LOL!

1977 Warres VP. I've had this now 7 or 8 times, and this was the weakest bottle, possibly due to a light amount of TCA.

I couldn't be at the 9th anniversary offline at the weekend so I consoled myself by opening a bottle of Warre 1947 - tasty but way over the hill.

Tell me about it...I have some dumpy bottles, and they just dont stay in place..

But some how I find the fat bottles more Vinho-like. So the shelves must fit the bottle, and not the other Way around

Maby the dumpy bottles from Niepoort is similar to a small demijohn? I am sure that the older generation of Niepoort must have found some taste and development in the dumpy bottle.

Yesterday I Opend the Vilar D'Allen bottle. And old Tawny, with the old IVP selo.

Turned out very pleasent.

I must say that on a summer Night, sligtly chilled, a Vinho do Porto, is great stuff.
