Worst case scenario is that I'll do my best to make the SF tasting, given the number of FTLOP folks going to that one.

I am in So. FLA right now, so Miami is a very distant possibility and highly unlikely I fly all that way.

NYC, is 50/50 but would be my 2nd option of all and Chicago in 3rd place.

I am sure I'll know in the next week or so. Thanks for the update Mario.

It would be great to try a bunch of new Douro wines, even though many of them will be shown up in Vancouver too.

I guess they are about to finalize the Invitations to be mailed out.
My apologies for the delay on this :(

update on SF gig

I called the SF hotel to see what I could find out about that event, and here's what they could tell me:

The event looks like it runs from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
There are two seminars, one for trade and one for consumers. The seminars are at 2-2:30 and 6-6:30, but they didn't know which times were for which audiences.

There are a block of rooms set aside for the event under the name "Viniportugal", but I don't know if these are at a discounted rate or not. You can inquire at 1-888-627-7196.

Carolyn informs me that this is during spring vacation for Pacifica's primary schools, and that we will be up in Tahoe, so now I'm unlikely to be able to attend the event itself. I should be back on Friday evening the 13th if anyone is still up for a SF area offline that night or Saturday the 14th. I could host at my house in Pacifica on the 14th or possibly the 13th instead.

Bummer Jay...about you not being able to make it (Tahoe does sound really nice though).

Anyone find out anymore info about this. I am trying to finalise my plans for my Napa trip that week and would love to try and get over for this event.

I know that I'm flying to SF that weekend, but don't know anything else about the event.

Mario - have you been able to find anything else out about the events?

Just wanted to thank Mario and report on yesterday's Chicago event from a newbie perspective.

I did not get to all 35 tables--had to catch my train to make the three-hour commute home. Favorites from what I tasted were:

Quinta Do Portal table
Wiese & Krohn
Sogevinus table--Barros/Calem/Burmester
Quinta Do Carmo
Quinta De Ventozelo--especially the 100% Touriga nacional table wine (red label)

I have read comments about white port not really being port at all or not a serious port, but (again a newbie perspectice) when I tasted the white port from Krohn, which they said was aged an extra long time, found it darker, richer, and much more flavorful than others I have tasted. Also at the Krohn table, had my first taste of a 30-year tawny and a delicious 2001 LBV.

Thank you so much Mario for the opportunity to learn, taste, and add to my list of 'must haves'!!

I'm glad you made it and enjoy the Tasting in Chicago.
Thank You for your comments on the new wines and am also happy that you add a few must-have to your list. :) Very nice.
Right now I'm in NewYork writing from a cybercafe. Tomorrow April 19th I will attend the NYC Portuguese Tasting.

Andy-

It's not all that mysterious. I'm sort of going through a career change right now. Going back to school to study advertising. So I've been really busy with my studies these days. Which is not to say I haven't had a few decent bottles in between.

In fact, I've been so busy that I almost forgot about the big event tonight! But I will be there- I just called to make sure it wasn't too late. I just won't have a nice name tag. Perhaps it will allow me to be more inconspicuous and elusive!
