hi derek,
can i ask which producer you found making port in 1993? my son was born that year, and i haven't seen a single bottle on line or in my travels.

Andy - I've managed to track down 1973 vintage madeira so at least you can celebrate your birthday with a quality fortified vintage Portuguese wine.
Derek - does drinking a bottle of madeira from the year of your birth to celebrate each birthday also guarantee survival for 12 months?
Dave - the only VP from 1993 I have ever seen is from Quinta da Romaneira. Extremely tough to track down but I think Gustavo has had some or may be able to get some through his shop in Oporto.

Dave,
Alex is correct, Romaneira is the only shipper I know that produced a 1993 VP but it is Quinta das Licieras, not Quinta da Romaneira.
I have seen this for sale occassionally in Germany and the Netherlands. Some Portugues merchanchts stock it from time to time. Perhaps your best chance is to contact Romaneira directly to ask if there is any of this left and whether or not they plan to distribute any to the US.
Good luck

Alex/Andy,
Not sure if Madeira will have the same effect - keep looking for a VP, it may be your only hope :?

Dave,
I have not tried it and have no great expectations. The 1 750 bottle I own was purchased for 20 Euro and the 375's for around half that each. Another way to look at it is that the Q das Liceiras was the best VP produced in 1993 8)

I was with Rupert Symington this afternoon into evening (and Stewart joined me as did my daughter). One of the wines we had was the 2000 Dow LBV. It is very good indeed, even if it may not be the exact same cuvee that went to the UK store in question. If it is even close, buy a case at that price!
