I just got the mailer from the Rare Wine co. It appears that the "New Orleans" Madeira that I bought last week is not the original release, but is actually a new release with a slightly different blend. Oh, and I paid too much too. From the RWC it's $59.95.

Is this the newer bottling? Or the old? It seems the Rare Wine Co hasn't put the New Orleans on their inventory list yet. These seem to be two different blends. If this is the older bottling, I'm not unhappy to have some.

I can assure you that the reason why all of the new sales were being done is because it is the newer bottling. Ricardo and Mannie announced this at the tasting. Ricardo calls it, "The second blend of the New Orleans – Medium Dry" and it is definitely not identical to the original.

This is a newer bottling. Yes, they are two separate blends. Maybe there is a way to tell the difference, but I don't know. There is a lot number on the front of the bottle. However, there is no bottling date :-(
I hope this is as good as the original bottling.

The original bottling was released at $75 per bottle. The vast majority of that bottling was sold in one night at an auction to raise money for the flood survivors and rebuilding efforts.

I had to cancel my earlier order from DrinkUpNY when I couldn't line up the delivery. I ordered from RWC and just received two bottles. RWC had a 2-bottle limit when I ordered. I still have one bottle of the original blend and will try them side-by-side in the future. I've also ordered 4 bottles from The Spanish Table. with the 10% case discount, they were $58.50 each.

Wow. Two bottle limit! I guess I'm happy with what I have.

Two bottle limit from the RWC? Will this be a one time release as well?

I tasted the 2nd bottling while we were at Barbeito a few days ago. I was a bit disappointed by the new "Terrantez" which is Tinta Negra Mole" and not Terrantez of course. Very different from the original blend, and in my humble opinion, not in the same league. Then again, it was a snapshot view only 10 minutes in my glass. Regardless, I was far from inspired.

Bummer, I grabbed two and have not yet tried them. So how are they allowed to call this a Terrantez if it is made from TNM?

I have 2 bottles in my possession, and the front label does not mention Terrantez. It says New Orleans Special Reserve and medium dry. The back label states that it is a blend of old Tinta Negra Mole and Terrantez. The exact proportions are not mentioned, but I believe that it is 85% TNM.

Yes, legally it could be called Tinta Negra on the front label, however it is trying to emulate Terrantez, and with only 85% of the blend requiring the primary grape for which it is labeled, the Terrantez was blended in to provide the style. The RWC price was lower for this than the first blend on release and that should have been the first clue. Nonetheless, it is a quality Madeira. For those of you who bought these, I'd suggest decanting for two full days before drinking and see what you think.

Yes, but I bought before RWC announced it.
