Nice picks, I have noticed that winebid is not selling most of it's port every week and that reserves for some wines are at retail before adding the now 17% premium. I'm not sure who would be willing to spend 4K on a 1963 Nacional, but it looks sad and lonely sitting there month after month. Yet I consider most of my purchases there "good buys" rather than splurges.

As for the discount at K&L, they owed me a favor and that was it.

I live near one of the Winebid warehouses where I can physically pick up my purchases. Saving on shipping makes it less expensive than buying at a store or via another e-venue. Given the 17% markup and paying taxes, I'm looking at the $25 per bottle range. Lots of 375ml in that range. I remember someone on here with a full hundred bottle cellar comment that he wished he had more half format bottles from the 70s and 80s so he could share them over dinner, rather than have to drink a whole 750 ml. That's part of my buying strategy now.

That might have been me, as I would like to have more older 375s. I've just about gone through all my 1983 SW and 1980 GC, and lately I've been drinking the underwhelming 1997 Niepoorts. But most of the winebid 375s I saw today were 1994 and 2000 Taylor and Fonseca which were overpriced IMHO. Maybe there was something else? Tangent: The 375 SQNs seem expensive too, making the d'Yquems look attractive.

I picked up a Broadbent 94, which uses nieeport grapes, and some smith woodhouse 2000s. I'm just starting my cellar off so anything I buy is going to be a new try for me.

One of those just sold on Winebid....mmmm. It was one of the few lots of port to receive a bid. However the new auction this week brings a legend?, a 1927 Dow's "Directors Special Reserve Vintage Port" Arthur Bell Scotland bottling imported to US in 1975. I wonder what the odds are of it being a bottle worthy of the asking price. Several nice bottles in what appears to be a liquidation of an inherited collection. Imagine dying and leaving your cellar with several Fonseca 1966 + more, with no one to appreciate them. One has a price tag, $11.95, yours now for closer to $215+.

Yes, that was me, foomench. I boycotted winebid for good while, but I've been perusing them lately. I won't be buying a lot, but they had a few things at good prices and I really I want to taste a good bottle of that 1987.

The condition of those don't look all that appealing with signs of seepage and low fills for their age. A shame they weren't better taken care of.

Thank you. This bottle didn't have any of the leak, low fill, or label conditions that many of the others had, and doesn't appear to have come from that inherited collection.

1 x 1994 Warres
2 x 1992 Warres Q. d Cavadinha

Probably paid too much at auction, but these perfectly dove tail into a Warres tasting I want to do. I can swap out a 1992 Cavadinha for a 1995 Cavadinha (I have several); add a 1994 LBV and a more recent LBV & we've got a decent set. May add another or two...one of which is likely a Warre's Warrior just for contrast.

BTW...is there a term for this tasting across a brand (I kind of think of it as a "ladder" as we climb quality and age)?

Just a couple of Niepoort Presidente. I wrote to Niepoort Vinhos, to get some more info. on the Port. Here is my question and their answer:

Hello Niepoort Vinhos. No doubt! My favorit Ports are Niepoort. I have had several "Presidente", Can You tell me more about this Wine? The oldest I have is dated in 1942 (a fat bottle) . Greetings from Denmark.

Dear Allan. As you can read from the label, this is a different style of Port, half-dry, light tawny. It was kept in barrels(pipas) for about 20 years before being bottled. So those you find on the market have a lot of bottle age, which we do like

Then I noticed a drop in price for the 2x 1970 Graham's I purchased but had yet to ship. They gave me credit for the price difference and I bought 3 more. $109.00 for this bottle seems to be a real good deal. They had over two cases left over at K&L.

They are down to the last 4. Then again how often can you get this for less than the '77? Now all they need to do is put the '70 Taylor on sale for the same price.
