Re: PORT OFFLINE in NYC?
I'll bring a box of glasses with me and a bottle. Dow 80 is fantastic (as is GC80, but I've a basement full of them), & G80 too. The downside of 80's is that it's limiting, I was thinking of something else but I guess if everyone insists on 80's I'll restrain my selection. I also have Barros, Burmester, Fonseca, and Taylor. The latter 2 should be saved for verticals, but the former we can crack open if someone needs a bottle to adopt.Roy Hersh wrote:Works for me and thank you Jeff. As for the date, definitely FRIDAY the 9th. I was going to bring a GC'80 as mentioned, but I guess I'll do a Dow instead, if I can figure out how to get it decanted ahead of time. Can't show up empty handed, not my style. Might just ship it to you next week. Will they have glasses that are suitable?
We will see if other's claims that the 1980 is one of the worst Ports of the vintage is a deserving fit, or not. [shrug.gif] I haven't had it in some time so it should be interesting to say the least.
Again, much appreciated. [cheers.gif]

The port-drinking fellows from the UK are so bemused at the lack of ability to organise a port tasting in NYC that we have decided to join you. Non-negotiable details of the event are shown below:
Date: Friday, 30 march 2012
ThemeA vertical of Taylor VP 1863 to 2009, with no gaps.
Venue: The Bung Hole, London
We trust this fits in with everyone's plans. If not,![Huh? [shrug.gif]](./images/smilies/shrug.gif)

Re: PORT OFFLINE in NYC?
I have amended my post to reflect the F80 as the bottle I was referring to and added a sentence there as well, so it would be clear.

Re: PORT OFFLINE in NYC?
I'll bring a bottle as well, but not sure what yet. I'm arriving in NY that afternoon, so maybe I'll decant at home just before getting on the flight.
Re: PORT OFFLINE in NYC?
No,
please do not bring a bottle
the bar is not big enough to accommodate 5-6 open bottles on a small bar table.
As stated before, it's typically not byob but because I know the bar staff i can get away with a few bottles, NOT a whole tastings worth.

These two posts are very contradictory and likely to lead to confusion.Jeff G. wrote:No,

Missing the peak of rush hour on a Friday afternoon in NYC, would be ideal.
What's the exact location?

Jeff,
I honestly don't know yet. Not sure if I am going to be staying in Huntington, LI; in Park Slope or on Madison Ave. Will know hopefully by Mon. or Tues.

Re: PORT OFFLINE in NYC?
indeed, I probably wouldn't recommend driving after a night out drinking.
but I do need general time so I can ask my friend to reserve us a section of the bar.

Certainly, that is understandable and again, this is very much appreciated.
