Well, here's another thank you to Mario for posting about this event. A lot of fun and educational as well. Too many wines to try and taste them all, but I too was impressed with the value from Quinta De Ventozelo. The wines from Cortes de Cima were also quite solid.

I was a bit surprised at the number of corked wines being poured (don't they taste before pouring?). Finally, the octopus and white bean salad was absolutely awesome.

Thanks again Mario!

Quinta De Ventozelo 2000 was my great little ‘discovery’, or so I thought. Dr. Johnson, I presume? Very fine (and superior to the QdV 2003).

The Delaforce 20Y Curious and Ancient Tawny also very good, as was the Kroen Colheita 1987 (though I have little experience of tawnies and their variants, so treat with caution).

mario--another grateful ftloper here. i had a blast at the nyc event, i was bummed i had a show to go to or i would have stayed til the bitter end. i mostly stayed in the port lane. my highlights were the sandeman 40 year tawny, which i think is the finest 40 year on the market, the taylor 2000 lbv, the royal opport 1977 colheita, and several other colheitas from qdn, kopke and krohn. most of the vps they were pouring were way too young, 2000s and 2003s, with croft being my fave.

mario, thanks again for the heads up, it was a sweet event!!

Mario- it was good to see you in NYC. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I had to promised to join a friend at a lecture (on heiroglyphics in Medieval alchemy, of all things!) and couldn't stay for very long.

I didn't take as many notes as I would have liked, but I tried to focus on the tawnies and the colheitas. I really liked the Royal Oporto 1977 colheita, and the colheitas from Burmester and Krohn. I also got to try the Sandeman Vau 2000 again. I really, really like the Vau, and tasting it for the second time made me wonder why I haven't bought any yet. As for LBV's, I remember both the Maghaeles (sp?) and the Pocas being really good. I think my favorite VP there was the Croft 2003.

It was a really great event, and I'm glad I had a chance to stop by!

Once there I realised that I had no way of recognising other FTLOPers. So I missed you all.
