Anyone tried this lately?
I have several bottles of this and tried one recently. It had a very curious defect. The bottle was cracked near the bottom. Probably because I stacked it in a case where it stuck out a bit, and the cases on top caused a crack. A bit of wine had seeped through the crack, so time to open! I didn't find the wine to be drying out at all. I thought it was beautiful now, finally starting to calm down and integrate. A very good glass of wine that will still go strong for a number of years.

I had this in May and it was in fine shape and really coming into focus and showing well at this point. Fortunately it has lost a lot of its earlier impressions of being over-oaked.

Hi!
My wife and I had a mix of ports and Douro wines in our luggage when returning from the FTLOP 2010 Harvest Tour a week ago:

The Douro wines (all red)
2 btl Quinta do Portal Grande Reserva 2000
3 btl Dona Matilde Tinto 2008
1 btl Dona Matilde Reserva 2007
1 btl Dona Matilde Reserva 2008

The ports are reported in the Port Forum

Just before leaving on the Harvest Tour, I purchased:
One case (6 btl) Vinha da Ponte 2007 (Quinta do Crasto)
With a selective memory I have already forgotten the price!!

Hi Rune,
It was great to meet you and your wife on the trip! I really liked the Dona Matilde wines. Please post your tasting notes on these. I'd be interested in seeing how these taste at home.

Thanks David!
It was nice to meet you and get to know you and all the other port enthusiasts.
So much port wine competence in that group!
We really enjoyed every minute of the Harvest Tour, and it lived up to the expectations, and more so for several visits.

I will post a proper tasting for the Dona Matilde wines.

Did you end up trying them last night? Just wondering how they turned out?

No, I did not try either one yet. Kind of back in the queue right now. Maybe next week.

2009 Niepoort Tiara and 2008 Niepoort Redoma Branco. Got both on sale for less for $17 and $16 respectively, so I was quite happy about that.

A newer style Douro that has velvety tannins with lush fruit. Not too ripe or over done, but not as rustic as I like for Douro's. Solid wine for the price. Had it decanted 3 hours.

I have a fair selection of CARM but intend to pick up the `07 Reserva ($36 Cdn) which seems to be missing on my cellar list. Believe will be in WS Top 100, grin and groan .

Pintas and Pintas Character have been avaialble here, but at very high prices. But now there is a change of importer, and the prices were dropped abt 50 % and came to a level which made it interesting. It appeared to be only 4 cs (Pintas) and 6 cs (Pintas Character) in all of Norway, so I had to move quick to get them.

1 cs 2006 Pintas (USD 65)
1 cs 2006 Pintas Character (USD 33)

Tried one Pintas Character for dinner last night, and absolutely well worth the money spent.
Will send in a separate tasting note.

2 - 2007 Ramos Pinto Duas Quinta for $9 each. I've need done a vertical of this wine, but I seem to like each newer vintage better than the previous one. [cheers.gif]
