What have you opened this week?

It was my daughter’s wedding last Friday. We opened a 6 litre bottle of Quinta do Noval 2000 Colheita to be shared between the 120 guests.

The following Monday I went to a cricket match and took a bottle of Taylor’s Terra Feita 1986.

1977 Ferreira VP, which turned out to be flawed. It was the roughest looking bottle in my collection so I had it standing up for a few weeks before I opened it. I took the foil off and there was a layer of calcified mold on top of the cork. I scraped that away and the top of the cork was black. I removed the completely soaked cork, decanted it and it was cooked. Down the drain it went.

Plan B. I opened up a 1997 Quinta do Infantado VP.

1980 Andresen Colheita, bottled 2021

This was really good (94 points), but I got the feeling that it should have been better. Others felt it wasn't showing well, too. Hopefully just a slightly off bottle, because I have 5 more of them.

Enologo 10 White...quite different that most whites. Interesting and fun. Moderate weight---tangerine and walnuts upon opening....had a distinct twang for a while, then evolved. Always those nuts.

1977 Dolamore Crusted Port. It's excellent.

2003 Delaforce VP. Crazy how dark it was. Like a black hole. Day 3 showed the best. Smooth and rich. Impressive nose.

I won a case at auction last year for $12.75 / bottle. I split the case with John M. and Lucas S. The first bottle I opened last year was just okay, but this one has been really good.

Dolamore was a wine shop in London that went out of business in the 80's or 90's. I believe this case had been sitting in the basement of another wine shop in California since the late 70's.

1991 Dow VP, a leaker with a fully soaked cork. I always have a small sample after I decant to ensure the bottle isn't bad. Coming out of the gate, this one is very nice.

I've just realised how long it's been since I last posted!

Since opening the Terra Feita 1986 back in mid-September I've had a Port-loving visitor from overseas stay a couple of nights, managed a quick trip over to Portugal and taken part in a 2 day, 100 bottle tasting of the 1970 vintage.
