I've just opened what was intended to be my last bottle of port for 2012 - an absolutely stunning bottle of Fonseca 1977. So good, in fact, that there is a serious danger of this not being my last bottle of the year. I'm not convinced the bottle will last beyond this evening!

Tonight I wanted to go from old and ancient wood-aged to something young, fresh, delicious and with deeper meaning to me:

1994 Quinta do Vesuvio VP to ring in the New Year.

Looking forward to read tasting note of the 1866 Vallado Adelaide.
It is for sale in Denmark for abt USD 4000, so it is really special.

For New Years, I had a 1963 Croft. I bet a good number of had 1963 Vintage last night... Impressive example of this vintage, had the chocolate notes that I find more on the '63 than any other Croft vintage. It's not to the level of Graham, Dow or Fonseca; but sure darn good by itself.

Opened a 1975 Barros Colheita to take us into the new year. I had not had this, before, and it is quite nice.

Had a glass of Barros 20 year old tawny at a restaurant, and figured we could do better with a 1957 Rocha colheita at home. I was right

It was very nice! Its fully mature and well integrated, but still has a tannic backbone that is very typical of Taylor. I enjoyed it quite a bit...

I was about to ask the same, I just picked one up as a birth year wine. Tough to find 88's from any region that are drinking well and not $100+.

A bottle of Taylor 2003 LBV - not as good as I remember it from a couple of years back when it was freshly bottled.
