2004 Cabriz Reserva (Dao)

I popped and poured this tonight. It was, dare I say, jammy, while also having some unapproachable characteristics. It was not very well integrated or balanced, to say the least. Tomorrow night I will have a better idea of how it turns out. Tonight, however, it just wasn't eminently drinkable. I have had some wonderful Dao wines before, and I can't say enough about those that I have enjoyed. This one tasted nothing like those that I enjoyed, and they were all popped and poured without any problem. I will post tomorrow after trying it again, but this one did nothing for me tonight.

The wine improved marginally tonight, but it's still not one for my cellar in the future. Sometimes I run into a wine that just isn't approachable to me, and this is one of those.

Cabriz is a good name in Dao wines!

I knew Cabriz had a big presence in the region, which made it all the more surprising that I couldn't get into this one. Moses, have you read Roy's review on this wine, by chance? He didn't seem to care for it very much, either. Are there any other offerings from Cabriz that you would recommend? Are their whites better than their reds, by chance?

I have only had it at wine events and thought it was good. The Touriga Nacional was quite powerful at the time and had that “stink” for lack of better term. I wanted to buy a case but never got around to it. I prefer to go for the deals off the shelf as there’s a decent amount Dao’s readily available to me. Dao’s can really go the distance cellaring. I am drinking 89’s that taste like they could 2001’s. It could be the Cabriz ’04 is in awkward phase?
