TN:1971 Pedro Ximenez Gran Reserve

I have only had PX once, and that was about a year ago. I saw this one at the store today so I though I would get it and try. It is a 1971 Pedro Ximenez (PX) Gran Reserva. I was about to open it when I realized I have no idea how long a vintage PX lasts once opened. So, how long will this bottle last once I pull the cork (it has a driven cork, not a t-stopper cork)?

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I would like to hear from you after you open the bottle. I have one of these that I picked up a month or so ago, and like you, have no experience with it. If I open mine first I will post here as well.

The Toro PX you are speaking about is very enjoyable. I have had the '71, '72 and 1975 side-by-side and think the '71 vintage is the finest of the three. I have owned six of these beauties and have one left. They are quire reasonably priced and when I first bought the '71 it was under $18, now it is still under $30 at local retailers. Obvously, http://www.winesearcher.com will point you in the best direction.

So how long will this baby last once I open it. Do I need to treat it like a VP? Or am I good for a few days? You, and everyone else here, have taught me much about port, now my lame arse needs more help :lol:

If I find out it can last more than a few days open, then I will be cracking it open this week. If not then I need time to gather some friends to come over to help with that heavy burden of indulgence (which should not be too hard with my friends. :twisted: :twisted:

You've got yourself a tasty bottle, Andy! PX will last a long time once opened, just make sure to store it in the fridge.

Sorry for not catching this quicker Andy. Have a wonderful birthday and enjoy that PX. You can leave it on the shelf for a weekn and in the refrigerator for a good two to three weeks. Enjoy this wine on your big day!

Positivily unacceptable, :wink: :P (just kidding, of course)

I just tried it, and I'm a liken it 8) This looks like used motor oil. A dark brown, with a tint of orange. A wonderful raisin and maple sugar, with a hint of citrus on the nose. This baby coated the mouth with a thick film of raisins, and a nice slight touch of heat that lasted a long long time. I could lick my teeth afterward, and I swear there was still some there. I really like this one, so I ordered a couple more. :D :D
