A cask sample tasted blind as part of
this review of the 2008 vintage.
A delicious open nose of blackcurrant jam. Medium weight, smooth, with lots of jammy fruit. Lovely finish, which is long, with layer after layer of sweet black fruits. The fruit dominates this wine completely but it does have a good underlying structure to suggest it will develop into a very nice port. 89 points.

I found this really well balanced and a fine VP with good potential. Actually from your note, which was quite positive, I am surprised by your modest score.

As you know I'm new to this scoring thing so you'll have to excuse any bumps along the way until I find my baseline. We've all got to start somewhere and I chose these. Suffice to say I liked this wine, it just didn't blow me away.

You've been hanging out with Alex too long.

To get a 95 point score from Alex a Port must be first blessed by the Pope, then visit the Bishop of Norwich and scrutinized for days. I think I remember a 96 point rating from Mr. B., circa 1992, IIRC.

Or dreaming about a wine yet to be vinified, no less bottled: 1994 Vesuvio.
