Decant: 2½ hours - Bottled 1964. Opened using tongs. Decanted off a large amount of sediment . Very pale and light in colour when first decanted, smelling of spirit and a touch of aniseed.
Much darker in colour after sitting in the decanter for 2½ hours. Transparent, a rich mahogany in colour with an orange rim. Dusty oranges on the nose, some licorice and fresh cut lavender. Thickly textured in the mouth, slightly sweet and full of flavours of burnt sugar and caramel. A lovely streak of acidity holds this together and really rewards patience in holding on the tongue. Swallowing generates a big burn of alcohol and then a long aftertaste of espresso coffee and burnt sugar. Very enjoyable and delicious. 89 points
