Decant: 2½ hours - An unidentified bottling, sourced through Berry's broking activities from a local private cellar. Cork branded with "Taylor 1963" and waxed with an attractive blue wax, embossed with the remnants of the words "Taylor 1963". The cork had been attacked by cork weevil, which may explain why the contents were ullaged to mid-shoulder. Despite the level of ullage, the port was an attractive rose colour.

Initially from the decanter, the port was sweet, mouth-filling and very inviting with an incredibly long aftertaste. After a couple of hours in the decanter the nose and flavours were dominated by sweet and lovely redcurrant but with some wonderful cinnamon and cloves mixed in; very full and dense in the mouth with wonderful complexity whilst retaining that fabulous length. It was not until 2½ hours in the decanter that the alcohol started to show through in that typical Taylor '63 fashion. With the alcohol showing through so sharply at present, I can only give this 90 points. Perhaps a little later it will merit a higher score.

This is a very fine bottle of a very fine port. A perfect belated birthday present to myself! 90 points
