Decant: 104 hours - Ex-cellars. Still pitch black in colour and showing little on the nose, perhaps only some primary blackcurrant. Silky entry, flavours slow to develop but gradually deliver a smoky, charcoal infused and tannic blackcurrant. Huge palate presence and a wine which keeps delivering more and more sweet fruit. What a beautiful fnish, so elegant and full of soft dark cherries and bitter chocolate. 1980 is a vintage where the Symington wines stand head and shoudlers above the rest. This will be very impressive one day, but compares with a 15 year old wine today. 92 points
