For The Love Of Port

Crate & Barrel has new port glass a reasonable price. The glass is a little thinner than Riedel, but has a similar shape with a cut lip.

When you say "thinner" do you mean a narrower bowl or a thinner wall?

Thinner wall. Actually they are tad narrower; inbetween Reidel and IDVP style glasses.

I have (had) some of these. They are thin and break very easily. In 18 months I went from 6 to 1. But at $5/glass not a bad deal and they can go in the dishwasher.

I've broken a few Reidel's but not nearly as delicate.

For a "volume" glass (one used primarily for tastings) I think I'd stick with the $2.65 INAO glasses from Marjorie Lumm in California.

These do look nicer than the INAO glass, but it sounds like they're significantly more fragile and they cost almost twice as much.

The INAO glasses work quite well when you need a whole lot of glasses for a Port tasting and they are widely used at many tasting rooms at Port houses. For that price, it's worth it to get 2-3 cases just to have on hand.

It's hard to argue with $2.65 a glass. Heck if they were $2.65 cheaper, they would be free

These Crate & Barrel stems are now on sale for $3.95. Had to pick up a few to try...

I know they're not port glasses per se. What I like about this shape is that it really helps with my diminished sense of smell (largely due to sinus related issues). I poured myself the last glass and a half remaining in my Graham's 20 Year tonight, and was just amazed at what a difference it made for me. I have tried a similar, if not the same, port glass as the one Moses showed in the OP of this thread, also from Crate and Barrel, and it just doesn't quite work for me, given my situation. Recently, I went to a port tasting and I was so frustrated because I couldn't smell very much. I just felt lost the whole night, not being able to get the complete picture of what I was drinking. I don't know if anyone else has used a glass like mine, and I'd be curious to hear opinions from others about this shape of glass versus the regular port glass shape.
