Tasted at the Taylor lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia on 02-OCT-2010 prior to the start of the 2010 Port Harvest Tour.
Taylor 40 Year Old Tawny Port
Good deep tawny color, but not as dark as other 40-yr olds. Somewhat restrained or more elegant, especially compared head-to-head with the 30-yr old. Good acidity.
Score: 92+ points.

So in none of the 10-40 year old Taylors did you mention caramel, brown sugar, almond, nutty ... Is this an omission, or did you find these to be much more of the fruity British style than the Portuguese style?

No, I'd say it was probably palate fatigue and BAC creep.

We did something like 16 Ports at the Graham's lodge before heading over to Taylor's for the 9 there, so my notes at Taylor's are pretty spotty. I actually made a note in my TN book after the 40-yr old and before the 2007 VP that I'd reached my limit. Realistically that probably means I'd reached it near the start of the TWAIOA if not before.
That said, I do normally find the Taylor tawnies to be more in the British style than the Portuguese style. I just can't say for certain this time around that my notes were deliberate in that regard.
