As part of the Niepoort Projectos Dirk Niepoort has made joint ventures with two Spanish wine makers regarding development of red wines. One of them is Telmo Rodriguez, and if you turn his name around, you will get the name of the wine. I think this wine has been produced in a couple of vintages.

Produced in Douro. In new French oak barrels for 20 months. Grapes from two wine yards in Covas do Douro (close to Sabrosa, north of Douro river). Bottled 2007. Decanted 3 hrs. Dark red colour. Strong aroma of oak and some dark berries. Taste is powerful, rather sharp, dominated by oak, relatively dry, medium body. In one way a demanding wine, but on the other hand it is missing something towards the end of the taste, which is reflected in the finish which is only medium length. 87 pts.

Thanks, I had never heard of this wine so it's great to have a TN and pic of the label. I also added the pic to Portraits and gave you credit!

Thanks for your help Andy!

The Niepoort Omlet was a rather expensive bottle abt USD 63.
In European countries with less taxes than Norway it is USD 43 - 53.
I found that too much, and purchased only one bottle and will not buy more.
There are so many other nice Douro wines that are better and even costs less.
The Niepoort Omlet was also made in 2007 vintage, but I have not tasted that one.

I have red wine bottles from two other Niepoort Projectos where Dirk Niepoort has been in joint venture with other wine producers. Will post Tasting Notes as soon as I have tasted them.

Hi Rune, thanks for your TN. I tasted this wine about a year ago and agree it's a somewhat difficult wine to taste, although I did find it was much better on day 2! You can find my impression here.
