TN: 2007 Niepoort DoDa Red – joint venture w/Alvaro Castro, Dao

Sold in Dao as DaDo. 50 % grapes from Douro and 50 % from Dao. Bottling done at Niepoort. Having tasted quite a few of Niepoorts Douro red and Alvaro Castros red wines, and now a few bottles of this DaDo, I must say I prefer “regular” Niepoort and Alvaro Castro in stead of this mix. In my opinion they have not succeeded in mixing the power of Douro and the elegance of Dao. The few bottles that were imported here in Norway are costing abt USD 7 more than Niepoort Redoma, and the quality is far away from Redoma. I have the same impressions of all the three bottles I have tasted.

Decanted 2.5 hrs. Dark red with a light rim. The aroma, which is consisting of wood, berries and possibly some spices, is actually not so pleasant. Medium body. Powerful and mature without being elegant. Taste a bit tart towards the end. Medium length of the finish. 84 pts.
