From a batch of LBVs that I tasted over a couple of days in late 2010.
1999 Smith Woodhouse LBV
unfiltered, bottled 2003
Color: Medium dark red, slight bricking. Not opaque.
Nose: Perfumed alcohol, red fruits. A bit of an aftershave note to the alcohol. Faint tomato paste.
Palate: Very slightly flat, otherwise round and black with purple fruits adding richness. Needs a couple more years of age.
Finish: Slight edge but softens. Boistrously fruity. Nice fade.
Score: 92 points. Slightly brighter and more boistrous than their 1995, but similar in quality. An excellent LBV.
