When I decanted this I had a small taste and at that time it was full of deep dark fruit, well balanced, good tannins, and long finish. When I came back to it about 9 hours later the fruit was almost totally gone, leaving a disjointed, simple, and spirity Port. Some 36 hours later it has totally changed again, young fruit has come alive, solid tannins, and a long finish is similar to when I had just decanted it. Is it possible this VP which has always been so approachable finally starting to enter an awkward phase? I suspect that may be the case as even the last bottle of this I had at the Quinta last October also had fruit that wasn't quite as expressive as prior bottles. None the less, thankfully this has reemerged as a stellar bottle.
