1984 Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port
served blind
Color: Faded dark garnet. It sort of looks a bit tired.
Nose: Soft and fruity. Faint cedar.
Palate: Ick. A bit sour. Very dry and tart. Possibly flawed? Others think it's fine.
Finish: Relatively short and a bit hot. Tart and a bitter edge.
Score: 86 points. I was quite surprised when this was revealed to be a Nacional, even from an off year, because it was my lowest scoring Port of the night. I did pick it as the "ringer" of the 1983 flight, but thought it seemed like a Dow or Warre. Never would have guessed a Nacional.
