American Crossword Puzzle Tournament Dow Vertical
New York City
March 19, 2011
My wife participates in the ACPT every year, and conveniently there is a lively Port tasting group in New York City. So every year we plan a Port tasting to coincide with the tournament, and this was the 2011 edition.
1991 Dow Vintage Port
Color: Light for its age, but still a fairly dark ruby red.
Nose: Seems off, possibly corked? (Concensus says no.) Stewed fruits.
Palate: Somewhat funky in the mouth. Seems to have matured early - 20 years old is too young to be ready.
Finish: Relatively short, but the competition in this tasting is pretty stiff.
Score: 90 points. I'm still suspicious that this was an off bottle in some way, but even so it was very nice.
