During Easter holidays we were four people that tasted three Douro white wines (2008 Niepoort Redoma Branco, 2008 Niepoort Tiara, 2009 Guru (Wine & Soul)). They were first tasted on their own, and then together with five different types of seafood (small shrimps, scampi, scallops, small crabs and king crabs, latter also called Kamchatka crabs).
This is their sixth year making Guru (first vintage was 2004). Light yellow colour. Fresh, cool aroma of straw and green apples. Oak is not showing in the aroma. Medium body. A bright white wine with “green taste”. Too much acidity which is overshadowing other taste. Disappointed with this white Douro, especially in view of how much I love Wine & Soul’s two Pintas Douro reds. Have two more bottles of the Guru, and will report if taste is different. 85 pts.
