For The Love Of Port

For those visiting London or other parts of the UK, or even for those living there that would like to get more serious about their Port purchases; where would you suggest Port shopping (not virtually, but in person)?

i highly recommend the staff at seckford wines that helped me sort out my offline with TPFers when i visited.

Sorry, guys, I just read this for the first time.

I wholeheartedly recommend the guys at Seckford Wines but it is worth pointing out that is is not a shop. It is an online shop with the major part of the business being wine storage. Many of the UK guys here, including me, use them to store our precious bottles.

If you are visiting London I would recommend the following:

Berry Brothers & Rudd, St James's - not cheap, but a place any port or wine lover needs to visit. If you call ahead they might even give you a tour of the cellar and the house that is now used as offices and reception rooms above the shop.

Harrods, Knightsbridge - worth a visit for many reasons, not least of which is the vast wine shop with an excellent selection of ports.

Fortnum & Mayson, Piccadilly - a smaller version of Harrods with a good selection of both VP and Douro wines. Andy V usually tries to empty their shelves when he comes to London

Uncorked - a wine merchant in the City of London, near Liverpool St underground station, which often has a number of wines and ports available to taste and occasionally has producers as guests to show their wines, Dirk Niepoort being one example.

El Vino - a chain of small wine bars/restaurants with a small but good selection of vintage port at reasonable prices to drink there or take away. An example being Fonseca 1977 at £110. The price is the same whether you drink it there or not.

Davy's Wine Bars & Shop - there are many of these wine bars in London, The Crusting Pipe being one of them, and they also have a shop where you can order bottles to be delivered to any of their wine bars to either drink there or take home. A corkage charge applies if you drink it there.
