20 Year Old Tawny Port by Taylor Fladgate
Posted: Mon Sep 05, 2011 8:14 pm
opened 9/1/11, end 9/5/11
Bottled in 2004.
As I got to the bottom of the bottle, lots of sediment, which surprised me, used to fresher tawnys, this should of been drunk long ago. Be wary, may need to decant if for a big dinner party as to avoid the floaties...
Had this a millino tiems at restaurants, first time at home.,
nice tawny color, reddish brown with orange tinge on the meniscus, almost yellow...a little cloudy at the end of the bottle, perhaps just from the cold as I had it chilled in the fridge.
tasted over 4 days corked each time, allowed to warm up a bit each time so as to be not so cald, flavor profile pretty consistent throughout. Nose seems weak ( but I have allergies)
strong cherry flavor, not a lot of nut at all, a touch of apricot, very clean and enjoyable. medium to long finish, just keep licking your lips, this lady has legs and high viscosity, on the sweet side for sure, not really even a tinge of alcohol / burn. I would like a little more wood / nutty profile, but really you can't get much better than this for a 20 yr.
For the price, I prefer a lower house vintage, so save your money or go for the big boys 30 or 40. The 20 is great for a night out when the 40 is 50 bucks for two ounces...
91 points.
