1965 Dow's Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port

An extremely rare bottling as there was only one pipe of this produced by special order, with 10 cases being used for a birth year and the rest retained by the family. Amazing the color is still relatively young and red and could easily pass as a 1963 or 1966. Still retaining some fresh red fruit, light tannins, a straight forward Port that still has some years ahead before it starts to fade. Not as complex as the Quinta dos Malvedos from the same vintage, but I was quite pleased at how well it showed and one which is easy to keep sipping until the bottle is gone.

Nice to see that a port from a vintage almost never seen or heard from has lasted so long and performed so well. Many years ago I tasted the 1965 Graham's Malvedos and it was surprisingly backward at the time. I guess it should not have been surprising, a port from a reputable producer is probably the best indicator of quality.

This past week I had the 1965 Malvedos twice and both were still very fresh and youthful VP's.
