For The Love Of Port

I really enjoyed this. I can't speak for the length of the decant because Jay MIller (the good Jay Miller for those who know both of them ) just poured me some at Berserkerfest Saturday night. There are still tannins in this wine and it is definitely NOT on the downside of the curve. Extremely enjoyable with nice red fruit and a mix of toasted nuts. The color was still reasonably dark with a very slight orange hue. The only criticism I have is that the nose is a bit spirity at first, but 2 swirls and it was gone. I wish I had a bottle of this to enjoy gradually over a few hours. Maybe this was just a very good bottle, but my impression of it was far better than most of the other notes. I'll give it a 93 with a bullet because I think it will get better.

I'm a big fan of Warre's in classic declared years and IMO there is label bias with some people in regard to this name. Earlier this year I had a fantastic 1963 that showed better than some Fonseca's from classic years it was paired against. Trust me when I say there was some Port drinkers who were amazed at how well it showed. There is no doubt this house makes some great VP's, it's just a shame it doesn't get the true respect it deserves.

On the bright side, the fact that other names in Port garner more attention, means that some like Warre's, Gould Campbell and Ferreira (to name just 3) remain excellent values for money in the overall scheme of VP.

So Jay, was this also from Pre-Phylloxera era vines?
