Hello all. My Name is Rob DeFraia. For the past few days I have been reading the threads and am just amazed and excited to read the wealth of knowledge from your group.

I'm fairly new to Port. I have never been a fan of wine but.... About a year ago a friend of mine at a cigar club I am member of asked me to try a Taylor Fladgate 10 year tawny. I couldn't believe it! I was thinking, what is this! A year later I have an offsite storage and am looking forward to filling it up. Seems all I can think about. My wife thinks I've gone crazy as a result. Just last month we spent a couple months at our home in California and I insisted we had enough room in the car on the way home to seattle for the 3 cases of various bottles of port I picked up while on the road.

Im getting a feel for where I'm at with it. Turns out I have found so many other ports that just blow me away. Finding that Tawny's are preferred. Just cracked a bottle of Kopke Colheita 1961 and WOW!!!! I've tried their 81 and loved that as well so I sprung for a case. Scary.

I have found that VP may not be my thing but I cant say that for sure. I have read in the FTLOP threads at least one person stating that when they get really old they taste like Tawny? Hmm that could be very interesting. I have had a Dow (it think 85) and a warres 07 (if I am not mistaken) so my VP tastings have just been limited to that hence the reason for my ideas about vp (which I believe after reading may be unfounded) [imnewhere.gif]

Anyhow, very excited and looking forward to being a part of your group!

Hi Rob, [welcome.gif]

There are several of us on the forums from the Seattle area, and we even have occasional big tastings. Seems like we average about 2 a year... one in January and one in July for the FTLOP birthday party. Once in a while someone will put together a smaller tasting, too, and we've been known to meet up at local wine shops when they have Port tastings.

Just keep an eye out in the Portugal Travel, Food, and Offline Planning forum for the next one. We'd love to have you join us!
