2005 Quinta de Ventozelo LBV Port

Purchased a few months ago for $20. Surprised by T-Cork as the 2003 I had last year was a regular cork. Opened 20 hours prior to tasting. Huge floral whafts upon opening.

Red-not purple in the glass-still floral aroma. Taste is a bit "winey" like some non-Portuguese ports made from zinfandel--that fits with the color profile, too. Yet better than those. Surprisingly grapy flavor but not saccharin. Little floral despite aroma. Tiny hints of vanilla and all spice. Rather piquant, gripped short finish but not over powering either.

This is an odd one, not like many ports yet an ok drinker. Drank with a number of portly fellows who liked a bit more than I did.

ok, that doesn't sound appealing to me as I'm not normally a fan of Zin or Cab based "ports".

I'm with you on that sentiment on Zin or Cab based ports, Andy. Yet, this was better than those. My bottom line is I probably won't buy any more of this, but if offered a glass, I'd drink and enjoy it happily.

Good to know, thanks!
