1984 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 6 hours - A lovely red colour, just showing some middle age maturity - 90% opaque. A lovely nose of nutmeg and cherries. Big and ripe fruit wrapped around soft tannins which have a lovely balance and poise. Delicious on the palate with delightful floral tones. The floral tones dominate the aftertaste before a decent finish with red licorice dominating over sweet espresso. Very impressive. 89 points

Decanted 4 Hours

Cork shows limited seepage and is crumbly.

Fruity and lightly sweet with great acidity soft tannin and pretty restrained spirit. Has the beginnings of some good tawny character, hints of coffee and richer flavors, and really nice balance. Judging from the fact that it was rather approachable from opening, this should probably be consumed in the near future, as it is at peak.
