NV Taylor 20 Year Old Tawny Port

Decant: 24 hours - Bottled in 1978. Stoppered with a driven cork branded "Taylor's Porto" that was seeping very slightly, causing the level of the bottle to be top shoulder. Decanted off a small amount of brown, sludgy sediment.
Mahogany brown in colour, light on the rim and showing a slight hint of green. Burnt toffee and gentle petrol on the nose. Sweet entry; lots of toffee, passion fruit and dried apricot. Full and rich, with a big presence that thickens in the mouth. There is acidity in the wine, but slightly less than would be ideal, leaving a touch of flabbiness on the palate. Slightly hot aftertaste, and then a big burst of black treacle and rubber. The finish fades until there is a lesser but distinct flavour that lasts a considerable time. This is an enjoyable port, that is very good drinking. 86 points
